Tropical K9 is the leading dog training and service breeding different dogs under one roof. Our training courses for police K9 handlers are unmatched. Our canines perform well in the field because of our straightforward and efficient training. Over the years, we have trained a number of dog breeds in different areas making them prepared for the professional job.
Our high-quality Police Handler and Detection Courses are reasonably priced and may be tailored to your department’s or your needs specifically. We don’t train police dogs in a “cookie-cutter” manner since we are aware that every department and community has varied demands. Experienced handlers and former K9 unit supervisors with practical field knowledge instruct our programmes and courses.
At Tropical K9, more than 200 dogs and their owners have received training in dog handling and training. While some of them currently own and operate their own training kennels throughout the nation, others are employed as canine behaviourists by some of India’s top business organizations. Our entire curriculum places a strong emphasis on teaching students how to deal with problems that can come up during fieldwork.
Ilkka Hormila
Hormila is a world-leading authority in detection training. He has been our mentor and guide since the beginning of our journey. During his police K9-career of over 40 years Hormila worked at The Police Dog Training Centre as a teacher for K9 Scent Detection Unit training, tracking, search, ID-detection and Explosive and Arson and Cadaver detection dogs and served in operational duties with his own dogs.
His training involved low stress learning environments and positive methods on the use of protocols for planning and evaluating the training activity. Hormila is an internationally recognised lecturer and trainer among officials, SAR-dog and pet-dog handlers, and works throughout Europe, Asia, India, and the United States of America. In his rich career, he was a member of the scientific group Scientific Working Group on Dogs and Orthogonal Detection Guidelines.
All trainers in our facility have been trained and certified by Ilkka Hormila; all our systems, processes, training methodology and pedagogy have been formulated by Ilkka.
Philip Butt
Philip Butt, India’s top dog training expert, has 28+ years of experience and is known for pioneering positive reinforcement techniques. As the director of Commando Kennels, he has trained over 1000 trainers and handlers nationwide. He created BeMod+, a revolutionary behavior modification program for dogs.
Additionally, he is the Honorary Secretary of The Hyderabad Canine Club and organizes the prestigious HyCan Dog Show. As a Dog Obedience Judge with the Kennel Club of India, his expertise in evaluating canine obedience is widely recognized. He has gained international recognition through his training endeavors worldwide. Philip Butt shares his profound insights in his book, ‘The Proven Path to a Happier Dog,’ providing practical advice for dog owners.
M Prakash Butt
Mr Butt is an obedience judge for the Kennel Club of India and the managing director of Commando Kennels, India’s premier dog training and trainers’ training institute. At present, he owns over 300 dogs, many of which are deployed at various industries across India.
Over 350 trainers from all over India have benefitted from the training and grooming courses conducted by Commando Kennels. An authority on dog training, Mr.Butt has made many obedience champions some of which have become dual champions!
